A. Talk to a local union official and obtain a 'green card' for membership application.  TOP

Q. Can you tell me the difference between fair share and union membership?
A. Fair share employees do not have the right to vote at local meetings, cannot run for office in the local, and do not have member benefits.   TOP

Q. I have noticed co-workers with this white jacket with a PEOPLE logo, how can I get one?
A. You need to obtain a 'yellow card' for a Political Action Committee deduction ($2.00 per pay) from a local union official.   TOP

Q. When does LOCAL 1224 hold the local union meeting?
A. Every second Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in conference rooms A & B on the second floor of the headquarters building.  Daycare is provided in conference room 2D.TOP

Q. On my paycheck I see union dues being deducted, what is that used for?
A. Union dues pays for representation at bargaining talks for security and rights in the work place plus members benefits.   TOP

A. The office for LOCAL 1224 is located in the second floor north reception area.   TOP

Q. If I have a problem at work and discuss it with my steward is it confidential?
A. Yes, all union business conversations with a local union officials are strictly confidential.   TOP

Q. I am not a member but would like to be one, will that be held against me?
A. No, you have a legal right to join a union if you are eligible for membership.   TOP

Q. Recently I just got employed by PHEAA, am I eligible for union membership?
A. Yes, any new employee, eligible for membership, can join immediately upon employment at PHEAA.   TOP

A. When you talk to the local union official when obtaining a 'green card' they can tell you if you are eligible based on your job classification.   TOP

A. "Union dues" is used to pay for representation at bargaining talks and "political action committee" is for legislative actions.   TOP

A. To be eligible for a local union office you have to be a member in good standing for one year.   TOP

A. No, joining the local union is not mandatory.   TOP

A. Fair share dues covers the negoications performed by AFSCME to bring you benefits, job security, and pay raises.   TOP

Q. Can I talk with my local steward about union business if I am not on break or lunch?
A. Yes, if the meeting is scheduled with management personnel and for grievance processing.   TOP
